Catie, I wanted you to see this really beautiful image of a human cell-- it was photographed to show the electrical signals that go across cells. Isn't it beautiful, like peacock feathers?
CATIE'S PROPOSAL
Figure Portraiture-- Concept- use microscopic images of human cells to make up the human form. Explores the small but solid foundation we are built on. Possibly do a series of predators of land/sea/sky (a shark, a human and an eagle) depending on how long the human portrait took. However, the eagle and shark would be made up of the things that they eat and their whole food chain.

Margaret's response:
ReplyDeleteThe ideas seem like a very good ones to start with. It is possible that the two ideas won't work well together, or just be too much, but let's see. I like the human cell idea because I think that it is good that the image would look different at different scales, like a Chuck Close painting-- it would be one thing up close and another far away, and that would be a significant addition to the content. The food chain one seems like it would be a diagram, which might be nice, but I'd like to see some sketches to see how you intend to integrate that with the other imagery.
Bring sketches, see you later.
Catie, what kind of emotional content do you want the figure+cells to have? Surreal? Fantastic? Scientific? Margaret
